Tips to Get Ready for the Bowling Season

The summer is winding down and its time to start thinking about bowling again.  League meetings are underway and we glad to see all the familar faces here in the center again, along with some new faces.  We have compiled a list of things to do to help you prepare for the upcoming season.  If you have any have any questions, feel free to contact Matt Orvis, USBC Silver Certified Instructor, you can email him at matt@ashbowl.com.

  1. Practice, Practice, Practice… you can’t expect to come out during week one of league and score what you scored at the end of last season without practice.  Your muscles need to be re-trained to work properly.  Also, many centers change the pattern slightly from year to year as the brushes in the lane machine wear down.  This will not only help you, but the center as well.
  2. Take a look at your equipment.  Make sure that all your grips are in good condition as well as the overall condition of the balls.  Has your span or finger size changed since last year?  Are your shoes still in good order?  We recommend taking your equipment to your favorite Pro Shop for evaluation.  Weber Bowling & Awards has a location right here in the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley to help you with your bowling needs.
  3. Did we mention practice?  It’s amazing that golfers will golf more days than just their league night, but why not bowlers?  If you want to be a higher average bowler, practice is a must.  Do you know how to practice properly?  Practice is all about working on all aspects of your game.  This includes not only strikes, but spares as well.  Never worry about the score whlie you practice.  How you are delivering the ball is the most important thing.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help, that is why we are here.
  4. Do you know when your league starts?  Be sure to talk to all members of your team to make sure everyone is ready for the new season.  All of our league start dates can be found here.

We hope these tips help you start of this season on the right foot.  As always if you have any specific questions or concerns, feel free to contact us, we are here to help you.
